Riparian Preserve 
Bird lovers will love Riparian Preserve. It has more than 200 species of birds to view year-round. There are miles of walking trails for visitors to comfortably explore the area. There is also fishing to be found here at the lake. The Riparian Institute that runs the preserve hosts regular educational programs to educate people of all ages about the birds that call the Riparian Preserve home. The Audubon Society also hosts monthly bird walks that are targeted towards families.

San Tan Village
This is a great place for shoppers to have some fun in Gilbert. There are more than 200 stores in San Tan Village, including Dick’s Sporting Goods, Dillard’s, Macy’s, Best Buy and an Apple Store. There is a great indoor food court as well as several standalone restaurants. Visitors who get tired of shopping can enjoy watching a movie at the multiplex cinema.

Southeast Regional Library
This huge library has a wide range of books, movies, periodicals, and music for patrons to enjoy. It is located on the edge of the Riparian Preserve, so visitors can enjoy the reading room’s view looking out over the splendor of the preserve. There is also a large computer lab where visitors can access the Internet for free.

Hale Center Theatre
The Hale Center Theatre has the longest continuously-running theatre program in the country. This length of experience shows in the magnificent performances that the theatre troupe puts on. It is a family-friendly atmosphere, so people of all ages can enjoy the shows here. They also have a children’s group that puts on productions that are a lot of fun to watch.

Gilbert Historical Society Museum
This museum is housed in the original Gilbert Elementary School, which was built in 1913. The museum puts a focus on interactive, living history. This means that many of the displays are interactive, which makes it much more enjoyable for children than the typical museum. They even have exhibits that feature actors that make the history come alive. This is one of the best things to do for families in Gilbert.

Freestone Park
Visitors to Gilbert will enjoy a trip to this largest park in town. It has playgrounds, a skate park, picnic areas, ball fields, batting cages, concession stands and acres of open space. It also sits right next to the Freestone Recreation Center, which has a swimming pool, rock climbing wall, track, basketball courts, and fitness equipment.
